ANNUAL DONATIONS
As approved in the 2024-2025 budget, Beaverton Garden Club has made monetary donations to these local non-profit organizations.
District Scholarship – We contributed to the Pioneer District of Garden Clubs and their College Scholarship Fund, which will award a high school senior entering college, or a college student $1500 if they attend an accredited Oregon college in one of many environmental programs.
Aloha Community Library – We contribute $200 to the Aloha Community Library for the purchase of gardening-related books or materials.
Plant A Tree – Formerly known as the Penny Pines project. @ $68/acre – We contribute $1,000 to the Plant A Tree Program, by which the NGC and the USDA Forest Service are proud to have formed a partnership sustaining our national and urban forests through this reforestation/forest education program.
Oregon Gardens – We contribute $500 to the Oregon Gardens, an 80+ acre botanical garden in Silverton, OR.
4-H – We contribute $150 to the Washington County 4H, working with OSU to provide youth in our area opportunities for environmental studies and experiences they might not have otherwise.
Portland Food Forest Initiative – We donate $200 to the Portland Food Forest Initiative, to help support their vision and work to make volunteered yards into food productive spaces, with locally grown food for every season.
Lettuce Grow – We contribute $500 to the Lettuce Grow program. In partnership with the Department of Corrections and the Federal Bureau of Prisons, The Lettuce Grow program designs hands-on garden-based classes and workshops for Oregon Incarcerated students. The produce generated in our learning gardens supplements nutrition for incarcerated people on the inside and participants earn professional credentials and skills that aid their successful re-entry to society on the outside.
HomePlate – We contribute $500 to HomePlate Youth Services, in addition to the one time they received monthly Raffle proceeds this past fiscal year. HomePlate serves youth ages 12-24 who are experiencing any type of instability. They can help with documentation and identification, job search and application assistance, skills training, resume & cover letter creation, and interview coaching.
Cedar Park Middle School – We contribute $500 to Cedar Park Middle School’s Rachel Carson School of Environmental Science, with the requirement that our donation be used for gardening training or environmental awareness, to provide local children with more accessibility to actual gardening.
Oregon State Federation of Garden Clubs Project – We contribute $100 to the State President’s Project, which is to purchase one or two wheelchairs that are specially designed with large tires and other accommodations. These wheelchairs would be available for handicapped persons to borrow so that they might enjoy Oregon’s amazing beaches.
Good Neighbor Center – We contribute $300 to the Tigard Good Neighbor Center, which empowers local families experiencing housing insecurity by providing shelter, resources and support for lasting stability.
Downtown Beaverton Association – We contribute $500 to the Downtown Beaverton Association to help fund a special project of providing planters and plants for the Commons on 1st St, between Washington Ave and Watson Ave.
